This works great on frozen and fresh fruit. It does a fab job on crushing ice. I have bought it specifically for smoothies and juicing and haven't been disappointed.

Aesthetics, function, and reliability: That's pretty much all we were looking for in a blender. Aesthetics: To my wife and I this was the best looking blender by a long shot. Its look is simple, it comes in white, and the pitcher is glass. The fact that it has an off/low/high switch only was a big plus for us as well. 5 Stars! Function: We are mainly using this blender for smoothies at this time. It blends very well and very quickly, and is surprisingly quiet. It cuts through ice easily. We only have had poor results when there is not enough liquid to cover the blades and keep the mixture moving during blending. 5 Stars on this as well! Reliability: So far so good. But that is not saying much, since we've only been using it daily for about a month now. It will have to stand the test of time. Since other reviewers have complained about blades breaking over time (scary!) we are only giving a 4 stars overall rating at this time. If it lasts a year I will regret not giving it 5. Overall this was a RIDICULOUSLY good deal for roughly $40 for the refurbished unit. In light of that, even if it does break down, who cares for $40! If the blade breaks and ends up in my drink, however, that will be another story.

Comments:

It fit my needs fine. It is a bit loud, but it's a blender. Never heard a bender that wasn't a bit noisy. I like the simplicity of the two speed switch, don't need any more than that. I like the solid glass picture, but the lid could be beefier for the outstanding all glass picture. I see some blenders have a more powerful motor and would hope that a "professional" blender in incorporate the larger wattage motor. It is simple, nice looking and for the great price I got on a refurbished blend it fit the bill. Thanks, Eric
