The uses for this tripod are limitless. It's very sturdy and supports my Nikon 7000 plus macro lense with ease. The best feature is what the manufacturer calls their "Multi-Angle Central Column". To use this feature, you extend the center column to its highest position. Then, after unlocking, the column can be tilted to any position. I set the column to be horizontal so that my camera is directly above the item to be photographed. Used in this position, there is a tendancy for the tripod to tip over - risking valuable camera equipment. Vanguard thought of this and they provide a stone pouch which is attached to the legs by Velcro. I found that putting one large rock in the pouch balanced my camera.
