Very pleased with solid build and overall sharp results. Not much softness wide open and focus quicker than was mentioned in some reviews. Zoom is a little stiff, but no creep.

I used the lens for general indoor and landscape on the D300. Perfect for indoor low illumination. Not very heavy.

Comments:

Main reason for purchase of this lens if the 2.8 factor for low light and successor to the normal 17-50 but w/ the upgrade of VC. The VC works amazingly during lighted conditions but at low light conditions it reduces the focusing speed making this a poor lens for low light sports or action subject. Lens is sharp at all F-stops specially at 4-7f. Distortion is minimal at widest point but it's towards the corner and at 2.8 which is expected. Overall great lens specially for the price and compared to the Nikkor 17-55 it's definitely a great bargain mainly it's compact size, weight, lens sharpness and VC option. Definitely a must have on your bag. Bought this lens to use w/ my D300.
