PROS

  • Image stabilization
  • Consistent Output

CONS

  • Focus ring
  • Weak Casing
  • Loud focus

BEST USES

  • Video
  • Indoors/Low Light
  • Landscape/Scenery

Comments:

i mostly shoot video, and this is a great lens if you want something comparable to the canon 17-55mm for a much lower price. also i shoot lots of hand held work and the image stabilization is a life saver. if i have one complaint is that the focus ring isn't as good as canon's. the best way to describe focusing with the lens is that it's loose. aside from that and the long name it's definitley worth it's price for being fast and good images.

Works well so far

Comments:

The lens seems to live up to the reviews I read about it. The VC works really well (for video too). Got one connection to the camera error (could be the camera). Also, the infinity focus is not at the end of the focus ring which makes you miss focus in manual mode. Somewhat of a problem for video. The range of the focus ring is very short, which makes small adjustments difficult. But overall the lens is good for the price.

Comments:

I sold my 18-55mm kit lens and upgraded to this lens. This is a wonderful lens and is attached to my camera like 80% of the time. I was originally considering purchasing a Canon 17-55mm but after reading the reviews on this lens I went for this. This has a much lower price tag than the Canon 17-55mm lens but still produces very similar picture quality to it. The only complaint I have about the lens is the Auto-Focus is loud and it is very much apparent when you use the video capture. As I can always switch to MF when shooting the video, I consider this a minor complaint. The lens is also built very tough, almost like a L series lens. It is worth every penny you pay for it.

My husband bought me this lens as a gift and I can't thank him enough! I use this lens for studio work and it is great! I have a small studio where space is limited so this lens is perfect! It is great in low light situations and I wouldn't buy another lens unless it came with a VC. Absolutly love Abe's of Maine too!

Comments:

Love this lens, I wish a lens of this caliber would be included as a kit lens. My only problem with this lens is you have to be careful to focus as it seems to be a little soft at times. Once you get focus honed in it's great and gives a very vivid image - edge to edge - even at f2.8.

F2.8 at 31mm demonstrates narrow DOF.
