Sharp R930CS - 1.5 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel

Remodeling kitchen and replacing a Sharp R-1874 over the range convection microwave with this one built in above a wall oven. Picked this because it most closely matched the one being replaced because we really liked it. Also using the new one during construction as we will be without a kitchen for a while. This is missing one feature from the old one: turntable disable switch. Hoping we can live without it.

This is a second microwave as well as a second oven - will be great at holiday time to have that extra oven capacity. The microwaves are often on at the same time, this one is very quiet, and will be used for the longer cooking items such as rice, risotto and other grains.

We use this oven on a day-to-day basis for ordinary baking of small quantities, as well as microwaving. As a microwave, it's fine. As a convection oven, though, it is not as powerful as its predecessor in our kitchen, a Sharp Carousel II which we had for nearly 20 years. I haven't actually measured the internal temperature, but we do have to cook at least one setting higher than before, and typically for longer. The button sequence for pre-heating the convection oven is also more confusing, since (at least as far as I can tell) you have to set the temperature twice. It's a good product for a couple of small family that allows you not to fire up the big oven for small tasks, but it's not as good as the earlier model, as far as we can tell.

The first unit we received had dents inside the compartment. Set up instructions warned against using the unit with such dents. Additionally there were smudge marks between the two pieces of glass in the door. Obviously the factory employees were careless. [...]The new unit seems to be working satisfactorily for the two weeks we have had it.

Comments:

Had one of these for 12 years and loved it. Gives me a second oven & microwave without taking up extra space. The convection feature was so useful I converted my main oven from basic electric to one with a convection setting.
