Comments:

I bought this put on my Nikon D3100 and use in wildlife and Macro photo shoots. I have only got to use it a few times but it appears to be easy to use, I haven't noticed any loud noise on focus and I guess that for the size of lenses it might be a little heavy. It does require the use of tripod if you are shooting at a distance as you don't have the VR. The quality is excellent, clear, great color and all I need is just more time to play around and learn a bit more to get some really excellent photos.

Comments:

Easy to attach to D3100, and it seems to have all the trappings of the kit lens that came with the camera, but it seemed a bit slow to focus relative to the Nikon 18-55. Overall I am pleased with it and I hope to get better with it as I get more comfortable with the new DSLR. Got it for Christmas with the D3100 and this is my first foray into DSLR and even autofocus. It feels a bit weird. That shouldn't detract from the lens, but the Nikkor was easier to get going with.

I thought this was a nice lense for the money. Yes it's a bit heavy, but not too bad. I haven't had any trouble with the auto focus. It gives crisp shots all the time and the Macro is great. I use it for flower closeups among other things and it gives a great picture.

I read the reviews for this lens, the Tamron and the Nikon. I was convinced that the Sigma was the best option and I have no regrets! This lens is incredible. Certainly better than my two Nikons. My photos are crisp with wonderful color. Even the RAW files need little to no corrections in Camera RAW. I'd recommend this lens to any photo enthusiast.

Very nice product for the price - the lens renders sharp results and does not need a tripod with decent lighting present. It is quite large and somewhat hefty compared to the Nikon lenses, but I find that a plus in construction quality. Auto focus works flawlessly.

Good value but a bit noisy

3.0

PROS

  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Strong Construction

CONS

  • Tough To Attach
  • Heavy

BEST USES

  • Sports/Action
  • Wildlife Photos

Comments:

I have not had much time with the lens as yet but in simple tests the optical quality seems good and the autofocus accurate. My main concern is that the autofocus is noisy. I often shoot zoom shots in situations where I want to be relatively discrete (e.g. in plays or concerts). The mechanical mount seems to be much more difficult (tight fitting) than my Nikon lenses.
