Incredible lens for the money!

  • Strong Construction

CONS

  • Heavy

BEST USES

  • Indoors/Low Light
  • Sports/Action

Comments:

So far, no complaints with this lens. I use it with my Canon T2i and have had no issues whatsoever. I compared this lens with the Tamron 18-270 PZD before making my purchase. The Tamron lens is nice but the cost was considerably higher and the reviews didn't offer any substantial gains over this lens. I'm very happy with my purchase and would do it again. Note: I listed weight as a Con simply because my wife claims it's heavy. I don't think it is but I also like the fact that it's made of metal and very durable.

OK lens but soft images

3.0

PROS

  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Lightweight
  • Nice Bokeh

CONS

  • The result is too soft
  • Poor in Low Light

BEST USES

Comments:

It's an ok lens if you don't mind soft images but do not expect sharp results from this lens. If you are looking sharper images look for tamron 18-270 instead. Other than that it's better built than tamron, auto focus is very fast and silent thanks to the USM, there is no lens creep and it's lightweight.

Love this lens! It has a great range which mean I don't have to change to zoom lens. Lens may seem bulky but feels solid and well made. Fast focus ability and great OS for slower shutter speed pictures.

A very good all purpose lens... only problem is it becomes a bit heavy with a crop-sized body... The lens is too BIG for the body.. The auto focus is a lot better than the kit lens of Canon T1i... Images are prey good.. happy with this...

CONS

BEST USES

Comments:

As a hiker and nature photographer this has become the lense that I always have on the camera when moving about. In addition I carry a 2x extender and have most of the range I want and need. Much lighter than carrying 3 or more lenses to do the same job.

PROS

  • Durable

  • Rugged

CONS

  • Heavy
  • Lens Creep

BEST USES

  • Landscape Photography
  • General Use

Comments:

I purchased this lens as a general, walk-around lens for my Canon 40-D. With it's wide reach, it's perfect as a generalist. The wide-angles are sufficient for indoor and portrait photography, and the zoom is fantastic. Optically, the pictures are sharp, crisp, and well-saturated. This lens is a true winner -- especially at the price! You can't get a better jack-of-all-trades lens than this one.

Great intro lense covers 18-250 with special lenses to compensate for distortion. That other lenses suffer from. My only complaint is the weight

PROS

  • Includes lens hood

  • Rugged
  • Filters don't rotate
  • Quick Focus
  • Strong Construction
  • Durable

CONS

  • Heavy

BEST USES

  • Wildlife
  • Upgrade
  • General Use
  • Landscape Photography

Comments:

With enough light, it's very useful to shoot an event like a wedding that is fast paced, presents subjects at various distances, and does not leave time to change lenses. It's the ideal all around lens for outdoor and general shooting. Build quality is very good and the lens feels good in the hand. The HSM is nice, too.
