The lens is very durable, sturdy, and a little heavy. But the lens is great. The packaging even comes with a lens hood. Good use of [$]!

Moderate weight for solid feels with Xsi body. HSM makes focusing superior fast and quiet in normal light but not in dim condition. Color and sharpness are better than expected.

This IS a good lens, especially in the price range, but I would recommend that video professionals looking for a cheap wide-zoom stay away from it. It vies for image quality at wide open with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8, but it focuses slower and has real trouble in low light and backlight (both at finding focus and at preserving accurate color). The real killer is the variable maximum aperture. This is advertised right in the product name so it's not a surprise, but those looking to shoot video on their DSLR should be aware that zooms will *not* come out smoothly -- the light pops which occur as the lens extends and stops down are more noticeable than on other lenses I've used for video and the mechanical noise produced will probably make it onto your audio track if you're shooting a quiet scene. It's a good lens overall, but hardly great. Unless you *really* need those extra 20mm I'd recommend people buy the Tamron instead, despite its more "plasticy" build quality.

This is a very nice lens. I leave this lens on my cameras almost all the time for everyday shooting. The autofocus is a little slow, but the results are very good. The optical stabilization works well. This is a great lens for the price.

I was initially very impressed with the size and build quality of this lens. It just felt very stable. The more I used it, however, the less impressed I was. I found it hunting for focus too much and was slower to lock onto an object than my kit lens. It was quiet, but in low light conditions, especially, it just wouldn't autofocus in time for me to catch the shot I was after. I later did side by side shots with the same f-stop, subject, lighting, settings, etc with the kit lens. I don't know if I got a soft copy or what, but the kit lens was sharper in most scenarios. The Sigma was also front focusing a hair. The macro ability of the lens was awesome and it was quiet and just felt stable....but ultimately I returned it because it just didn't have the image quality I was expecting and it was hunting for focus enough that I couldn't justify the price tag over the kit lens. I think I'll just look for a good prime.

This lens is very quick to focus, and the focus is also very accurate. The OS system is excellent at keeping camera shake from wrecking your photos. The lens produces nice sharp photos with excellent color rendition. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lens.

Now it is in the shop. Hopefully the problem can be corrected. If so, it can be a nice beginner's versatile lens.

The Lens makes good Pic's but the focus is continuous working, even after you lay your camera down it will ratchet the focus. Focus is noisy. The stabilizer, I finaly turn it off. When you use stabilizer after you hold your shutter half way down for a second it starts searching and making round moves.
