Excellent Lens

  • Strong Construction
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Nice Bokeh

  • Wildlife Photos

I bought the Sigma 150-500 lens for my Pentax K20D camera. I updated the firmware (updated software for my camera free from Pentax) for my camera to the 1.04 version to ensure that this lens would operate on my camera per advice from Sigma. The autofocus is sharp and is not loud (the birds don't take off when I focus). It is sturdily built, all of the construction seems very sound. It has the mount ring for using on a tripod if desired, which also acts as a handle when carrying it or shooting. I referred to it as a ring because it can be loosened and turned in a circular motion to provide for vertical or horizontal use on a tripod. I myself do not usually use a tripod so I have it (the handle) positioned to the left on the lens because it is comfortable to shoot/handle with it there for me. The camera takes very nice pictures, whether you are at 150 or on up to 500. The OS is very effective, and the autofocus is spot on, using the center of your lens as the focusing point. Though I have only had it for a few days, the lens has provided the accuracy, color, sharpness, mechanical function, build quality, and very nice styling that I was looking for. It is everything that it is advertised to be. This is the most that I have ever spent on a lens, I would like to tell you that I am really satisfied. All of my other lenses are Pentax and I love them, but Pentax does not make an ultra-zoom (what I mean is Pentax only goes up to 300, for example I have the Pentax 55-300). Sigma service answered questions about authorized dealers, firmware requirements for my camera (as I mentioned above), warranty (3 years for this camera), validating whether models sold by authorized dealers were the most up to date, and other things. The lens is satisfying. I recommend it for anyone who wants to satisfy that need of getting close up with precision and the presence of autofocus, plus having the range of 150-500 to deal with.
