Seems expensive for what you get but it works well and there's really nothing else that is as versatile. So bite the bullet and get one if this is what you need. Some of the parts are metal and some are plastic. It would be nice if it was all metal but that would just make it more expensive and probably is an unrealistic expectation in the current day. Everything should be fine if you don't abuse it. If you have the in-camera Commander capability the R1 is all you need.

Good for closeup work with macro lens - stamps, flowers etc. Haven't used all the included accessories yet, but it appears to be very versatile. Lots of small parts to assemble, a little tedious, but that's what you get for something that hangs on the nose of a lens. Still figuring out all the ins and outs, but I'm sure I will like it.
