There's a lot to learn as you become familiar with the menu system, or, like me, are transitioning from an analog/film-based way of thinking to digital. The experience however is worth it! There are also a number of excellent books(field guides, etc) and reasonably priced video training guides to help ease your transition. Worth the investment and not a disappointment.

This camera is the perfect "next step up" from the less expensive entry-level DSLRs. Professional feeling camera packed with features, for a reasonable price! Very fast! Nikon is filling the gap between entry-level DSLRs and professional DSLRs with the design of the D7000, and this camera does just that! Looks, feels and works great - very solid build. I would highly recommend the D7000 with the 18-105 lens to the photo enthusiast who is ready to take his or her experience and capability to the next level.

Comments:
I upgraded to the D7000 when I read the rave reviews about the camera and it does not disappoint. I upgraded from a D40 so there was a bit of a learning curve because of all the extra buttons and functionality. I'm very impressed with the on camera flash since I do not have a speedlite. The indoor pictures come out much better with this camera. The camera is quiet and fast. I've gotten some really great pictures so far and I'm very happy with my purchase, though I was initially frustrated with the layout. My main disappointment was the vintage Nikon lenses that fit my D40 do not fit the D7000.

Anyone can just pick it up and start using it; but will take a while to learn the large number of features. I need to get used to the weight of the camera and large lens.
