Comments:

I recently purchased this camera to replace my Canon t1i. Having used a couple of Canon cameras, this was my first Nikon and I was skeptical about the ease of use and learning curve. But I was positively surprised with the functions and layout of all the common functions including the zoom buttons. The swivel LCD is always great to have an I am happy Nikon decided to go for it. Overall if you are a budding photographer or if you are a pro but want to have a backup camera... This is the perfect one!

Abes Of Maine was definately the best deal. Got the gift set along with my purchase which included the 32 gb card, tripod, lens cleaning kit, and card case. One thing about the tripod though is that it's a bit wobbly and the camera seems a bit heavy for it but it works and came with the set so can't complain... All in all the camera is great to learn on and a great motivation to take photographs..

Bought this camera to shoot images for our company web site/blog and to do HD videos posted on YouTube and Vimeo. Absolutely easy to use right out of the box. The camera really helps you out in every way with every setting, and for the elements of photography that I want total control over, it enables that, too. You definitely need to consider different lenses for different functions. The stock lens that comes with it is very useful, but has limitations. Invest in other lenses and you'll be able to capture anything you like in truly pro form.

My Nikon D5100 is used for various ocassions such as Weddings, Birthdays, Baby pictures, Traveling, etc. I like the flexibility of choosing different settings, manually and automatic. The digital monitor is nice. I like how you can secure the monitor from damage, just by folding it back to the camera body. The only thing that needs improvement on is the battery. I can live with that. I just have to make sure I bring my charger along to give it a charge when needed or carry along an extra battery. So far, it's working out O.K., because I don't take excessive pictures. The more you use the monitor to view your pictures the faster the battery will be deplited.

Because I like to shoot in low light areas, a tripod or a steady-cam is a must and the D5100 performs perfectly with either of them. I am very impressed.

Excellent camera for a reasonable price. A huge step up for me from the point and shoot digital cameras I had recently that were supposed to work well. VERY nice image quality, ease of use and fast (burst mode) reload which is important in getting those one of a kind images. With a good memory card, it will go on and on. I am pretty confident I'll own and use this camera for many years..

I just loved this camera. I have been using the nikon camera for last couple of years now and with this new D5100 I am really very satisfied. I loved the features like HDR, Autobracketing and the photo processing quality of this camera. I would recommend it to all photo enthusiasts, people who are serious about photography and also people who want to start photography as their serious hobby.

Comments:

This is my first DSLR and I wanted to get it to shoot photos of my new baby and for some web design work I do. I thought the D5100 and T3i were both very strong, very similar competitors but ended up with the D5100 as it went on sale first. The D5100s specs make it a slightly-more future-proof model than the D3100. I don't miss an in-body focus motor and my lenses (kit + 35mm f/1.8 AF-S) work fine with this. For a newbie like me, this camera has performed wonders. I'd like to see a dual-battery grip come out soon, as that will significantly increase battery life when shooting video or using the LCD viewfinder. Top purchases with this camera were a very fast memory card, SB-400 flash, and the AF-S 35mm f/1.8 lens. Its a few hundred bucks on top of the camera, but they really help round out this thing's capabilities.
