An amazing camera - it will "hold your hand" if you want it to, or you can be as creative as you want with all its features. For action photos (like kids and pets), it can shoot at 3-frames per second (more than fast enough for our use). It even has Nikon's "Live View", which lets you see what the camera's lens is seeing through the LCD screen! As for the lenses, I've always considered NIKOR lenses as the 'best of the best' -- you'll love these! This camera will do everything that you want it to do, beautifully -- and this is a camera that you'll want keep for a long time, whether you're a beginner or enthusiast.

This camera is everything it claims to be. Good entry to mid level DSLR. Image quality is excellent. Auto focus and vibration reduction works well with included 18-55mm lens. I also run a 55-300mm lens that has great image quality but a little slow on the auto focus with faster moving objects. I have worked around this issue by tracking the subject while shooting. The video function is somewhat disapointing. Auto focus is very jerky and noisy while taking video. The sound of the camera focusing will be heard in the vidoe clip. For the package price of [$] I received the D3100, 18-55mm lens, 55-300mm lens, Nikon camera/accessory bag and Nikon instructional DVD...hard to beat that!

Everything I could ask for as a beginner. I really liked the HD video option that a lot of the other cameras I looked at did not offer. The picture is extremely clear - especially next to other SLR models.
