Great reach and sharpness, but super expensive. Hopefully I'll have this for many, many years to come.

I bought this lens as an up grade. I do a lot of wild life and nature photography and am very happy with the performance of this lens. It is a little heavy , But it's a pro lens so is exspected. Other than there is nothing I can find wrong with it. This is a great lens. I would definitely recomend this lens to anyone.

This is the telephoto to go to shoot action in low light conditions. AF is fast and accurate. This lens is sharp in all its focal length, even wide open.

After reading about this lens I debated for a long time about the cost. The more I read the more I wanted it. So I finally decided to purchase it and my first shots with it made me very glad. It is FAST and very sharp and clear. I had no focus hunting problems at all. I made shots from 70mm to 200mm with no bad shots, using a D7000. It is heavy, so when I saw someone else say they used a Black Rapid strap with it, I decided that was a very good idea, and I would recommend that for it.

I love this lens its worth every cent, I use it daily with my Nikon D7000. Its built to last so from the day I bought it has been on my camera taking quality pictures. The only thing is the weight issue but for me and my use I always carry my Gitzo traveler tripod so that just erases that problem.

It's expensive because it's great. It's big, heavy, takes beautiful pictures and won't let you down. Comes with a black carrying case with a strap that is handy.

Not disappointed with my purchase. I was thinking of getting the Sigma or the Tamron version at first due to price difference but due to Nikon's good reputation I went ahead and bought it. I did a lot of research and read reviews and they're right about the fast focus, good built quality and excellence in poor lighting. Go get your own now.

Comments:
The lens construction and performance are superb, as you would expect of a Nikkor in this class. I shoot with a D700 and can easily hand-hold this lens and get tack-sharp shots consistently - even at great enlargments. This is due to the VR - which is supposed to be 4-stops but I wouldn't push it - as well as the high ISO settings possible with the d700. It is rather hefty, but what would you expect with a lens like this? I really never expected to even want to carry it around and use it without a tripod, but that's exactly what I'm tempted to do.
