Comments:

I use this mostly for nature shots and sports. Picture quality is excellent. F stop range has been great for 99% of what I shot. Size, weight and durability get high marks. I would hghly recommend this lens for anyone with the need to pull in subjects from a distance without sacraficing clarity.

Was it a gift? Yes, but not for me, for my son. But I had to check it out didn't I? Make sure it was not faulty? (One of my cameras is compatable) It is a bit bulky, but WOW does this beast get the job done. If you want small and can accept inferior photos, use your mobile phone. Want real versatility and great results, get this lens. It should not be your only lens, it is a bit too much for the bulk of indoor shooting, you have to use the lower end of the zoom. But outdoors, unless you want insect macros, this is the best all around lens.

Nature and wildlife photography. Love being able to get photos that are "closer" to the subject. Volunteer as photographer for Garden Highlights at Longwood Gardens, so this lens really helps bring things closer.

Comments:

Very good lens. Photos are very sharp when the autofocus is on target, but occasionally it wants to focus on something in front of or behind your subject. It's easy to switch to manual focus to get it right, but it takes a little getting used to.

Comments:

My Nikon 70-300 VR seemed to get heavier every year. The 55-300 VR is much smaller and lighter yet its image quality is as good or better. Its one potential problem is that the front element rotates when focusing which makes using a polarizer difficult. I use mine for wildlife, zoo and aquarium animals, and for picking out details in architecture or scenery, so this has not been a problem.
