Ideal for travel, event, environmental and general photography in a wide variety of conditions, with superb optical formula with an ultra-fast f/1.4 maximum aperture
This is a great general purpose lens that also makes a fine short portrait lens on a DX body. It is great in low light, very fast focusing, and extremely sharp backed off an f/stop or so. The lens has very nice bokeh and is well made.

Fast focusing, good in low light. Reasonably sharp with nice bokeh. Makes a nice short portrait lens on DX. A relatively versatile lens of solid build quality.

It is an incredible lens and the quality and performance is A+. I think the bokeh this lens produces is beautiful. There are cheaper options with this type of lens, but I have tried the others and find this to outperform the others. I primarily use this lens on my D300.

I've had this lense for over 3 weeks and haven't yet taken it off my D7000. This is my first prime lense and I'm finding it to be sharp, fast-focusing and easy to use as I take photos of my granddhildren. I wish I'd purchased it sooner.

Having been using mostly zooms for several year, it is a pleasure to go back to the sharpness, versatility and convinience of this all around great lens. I used it on the D3 and the D300( where it works very well as a portrait lens)

Comments:
This lens feels great! If you have enough money and want to take some pics through a large aperture, take this one, no question. However, if your budget is not that much, f1.8d is enough. You can't tell a big difference of the pic's quality between these 2 lens. There is one drawback of the 1.4G, sometimes, it focus inaccurately and slowly.

We recently added a new addition to our family and I picked up this lens to help take indoor, low light pictures without using a flash. It does the job VERY well. In addition, I am always out and about taking shots of nature and it works well there too.

This is an amazing lens for portraits. The focus can be a bit slow, but not slow enough that it becomes an issue. Smooth bokeh, great field of depth, very well made. Definitely a favorite lens.
