A great lens. I used it for a function in our church two days after I received it. I was very much impressed. Pictures are very sharp. Focus is quick on my Nikon D300s. A great buy.

Great lens. Sharp and fast AF. Not too bad on distortion, little bit better than my standard cheapy 18-55mm, but that's at 17mm. After 17mm, the distortion is under control. Nice bokeh and it can focus very close the object you're shooting, almost a macro sense of feel. Great for low-light too.

I love this lense because I can get the whole picture. I use to try and back up but sometimes you can only back up so much then you are cropping things out of the pictures that you really want there. That wont happen any more with this lense.

CONS

BEST USES

Comments:

This lens works great in situations where the lighting is good. Bright lights at night cause some internal reflection within the lens and show blue spots on images. The only way to get rid of the blue spots is to crank the aperture way up which kind of defeats the purpose of so much glass. I get better nighttime pictures with the kit lens.

CONS

  • No Increase In Performance

BEST USES

Comments:

I bought this lens to do lower light photographs. When I manage to catch some high intense light in my picture (like the moon in a night shot, or a bright light in a darker room) at the low aperture settings, there's lots of internal reflection causing blue spots in the image. The only way I can get rid of the IR is to crank up the aperture which kind of defeats the purpose anyway of this lens. I wish I saved my money and got a standard f1.4 fixed length lens.

I love this lens. It records the light and color of a scene so perfectly that it cut down a majority of my post production work. It has already paid for itself with that alone.

I am a wedding photographer, and this line of work demands fast lenses. I've shot two weddings so far with this lens, and have been thoroughly pleased with the quality of the images. I especially like the wide-angle shots I get at 17mm. This lens offers consistent quality in low-light situations throughout the zoom range. I am pleased!

My brother and I were shooting our 1st weddng shoot (Family related of course). I read and reviewed several lens options and chose the 1--55mm 2.8. I was impressed with it that I've even purchased one for my brother the week before the wedding. It was a life saver especially for the large groups shots. The quality and clarity were ausome. And with a little help of Adobe CS2 for final printing and correction, the Bride and Groom were exstremely please of the photos.

This lens makes the Nikon DX cameras perform to professional standards! It is tach sharp, not too heavy, balances well in your hands, is solid, rugged, and moisture resistant. I've shot a wedding in fairly heavy rain with this lens on my D200 camera and got zero internal lens fogging. It's even fallen over on a tripod onto concrete which broke the lens shade and clear filter, but had no effect on the lens itself! (now I can tell why I use a clear filter!!)

Perfect lens. It's on my d300 90% of the time. Only wish it had VR but, that would only add to the heavy weight of this thing.
