I live in the US but work overseas. I frequently travel to some remote areas of the country, giving me some unique photo opportunities. This lens is everything I was told it would be. The photos are sharp and the colors are beautiful. I use a Nikon D5100 and can only imagine what quality photos I could take if I had the skills to use a more professional camera. If you are thinking about buying a cheaper lens because you feel you can't afford this one, don't. Save until you have enough. It's worth the wait.

This Ultrawide is one of my top three workhorse lenses, indoors or outside. It's the best ultrawide in the business, DX or FX. It's not a lightweight. Cost is significant.

I use this for indoor, furnishing shoot, as well as outside ultrawide special effect play. So sharp from corner to corner. Very nice glass for the ultrawide junky. But for ordinary people, this is a specialized lens and may not really need it. 17-35 may suffice for normal wide photo.

Comments:

This newly designed lens has set a new standard in image quality at this focal range for full frame (FX) cameras. Despite the fact it's a zoom , it beats most of the prime lenses in the same range and it does that at a price that is surprisingly low. If you are into landscape or architectual photography this lens alone has become a reason to chose Nikon as a system. I have used this lens for 7 months on my D3 and I'm very happy with the results. It already performs very good wide open (f/2.8), has little vignetting and even at 14 mm the corner sharpness is pretty good. Just as a reminder, 14 mm on FX equals about 9 mm on a DX crop camera. The angles you get with this lens are pretty extreme, which makes it even more stunning how good the quality is and makes the price a bargain. The only downside is the massive front glass element that doesn't allow any filters to be attached. But at these extreme angles a plane glass filter would degrade image quality too much anyway. The lens cap that comes with this lens is the only aspect that can be improved, it doesn't lock onto the lens and tends to come off at times. Overall this is one of my best lenses I have. A lens other manufacturers look at with envy. Even though I'm not much into landscape photography I find this lens very useful indoors and as a walk around lens in the city or during daytrips. The extreme fiewld of view always makes interesting and unique images.
