I love this printer even if the Mac printing software has a bit of a delay for outputting the items to be printed and issues with manipulating the print output. It is still a great, compact printer with much improvements over the previous Konica-Minolta model I had purchased.

I have recently purchased this product based on the reviews and so far happy about it. I have had this for a week now so will have to see in the long run. It takes a little bit to warm up, calibrate etc... but once it is online the prints come out quicker.

Great printer for the price. Changing toner required my calling tech support which was very good. Ingienious design for loading toner once you know how.

I originally purchased the rock-bottom-priced Konica Minolta 1600W thinking I could get by with only a USB interface on Windows. I ultimately needed an Ethernet-connected solution, and otherwise loved the 1600W so much that I purchased the 1650EN. Sadly, I bricked the 1600W while out of warranty, and KM tech support could not help. Toner is keyed such that I could not use the old 1600W carts in this printer. What a shame. Still, the print quality is SO good, I'm willing to overlook these sore spots. I still highly recommend the 1650EN.

No more waiting for the inkjet printer to clean the cartridges. Everything just prints sharper than the inkjets I've had before. I leave it on, it wakes from pwr save and starts to print quickly. Abes had a great price and I feel I made a good purchase. Time will tell if it was a great purchase. Also, I see refill kits on line, for much less than I thought.

I was looking for an economical color laser printer capable of doing good prints of photos. Sounds impossible. I have a good ink jet printer but I needed something that could produce proofs of things we were working on that were presentable to our creative teams. This is the second Magicolor I have owned. It really is the best out there. the dpi is great--while I couldn't compare it in quality to the inkjet in producing fine prints, it is way more than just acceptable at producing prints of artwork and photos. I have not found a better color laser at producing images--at any price. Yes, it does have its weaknesses--it's a little noisy, and a little slow but as I said, it is so good for a color laser, at doing images economically, it outweighs by far its weaknesses.

I replaced a dead Konica Minolta 2300W with this 1650EN. After reading some comments I balked but went ahead anyway. I do not find this printer to be either slow or noisy. It is not silent, I don't know a color laser that is. It is not slow. I hit print and within a few seconds my print is processing. This is a three pass printer that is rated at TOP 5 ppm color. If you are printing large quantities of documents with lots of color you have to buy a printer made for the job. I think this printer is great, I hooked it up, and got it going quickly. Another great Konica Minolta printer.

I don't think you can beat it for the price. The only negative is the print speed, especially in color, but that really isn't a concern for me in this price range. Quality is fantastic.

I use this for printing at home. It replaced a Brother laser printer, which couldn't connect to my wireless network. I am quite satisfied with the quality of the print- text is very clean and sharp. I would give it more stars if it were quicker to print -- it hasn't yet come close to the 20 ppm that Konica-Minolta claims. Perhaps this is because my documents have photos embedded. Still, it does a great job, and I am satisfied.

Not bad, for the price

4.0

PROS

  • Durable Construction
  • Sharp tones & colors
  • Easy Setup

CONS

  • Slow Print Time

BEST USES

  • Postcards

Comments:

I use this to print on the back of lithographed postcards for my direct mailings (25-100 per week) and resumes with color photos (1-2 per week). I have been using Konica-Minolta-QMS printers for this purpose for more than a decade. The manufacturer verified that printers in this series would print on the new, heavier postcard stock and ran several test prints for me before I purchased it. In practice, I find that it tends to score the card stock now and then and sometimes the opposite side of the postcard contains a faint image. I think this is a result of the 1650 not having a straight paper path. But I tried printers from other companies and they either flatly said they won't support this size and weight of card stock or the postcards jammed when they tried it. So it's better than nothing. The print quality, especially for text and black toner, is eye poppingly good. With color photos, the output depends a lot on both the quality and the size (dpi and dimensions) of the original. I found the latest PS driver (downloaded from the Konica-Minolta website) to be a bit murky. (Not enough magenta, other colors a little too faint, and too much black). The driver that shipped with the printer is much better. Setup was MUCH simpler than earlier printers made by this company. Even on a LAN. The time to print the first page of each job is quite slow. But the printer is faster to warm up initially and it doesn't recalibrate the toner alignment as much. It's quieter, too. And SOOO inexpensive. A couple of years ago, I would have paid 3 x the price for something like this.
