Got tired of the inkjet run-around where the first cartridges are great the the replacements are never as good as the originals and went for the laser products. Also learned that inkjets do not do so well with high density color graphics and ink usage. 10 to 20 fully colored double-sided brochures would wipe out my ~$35 high capacity inkjet color catridges. Had to wait until the color laser printers came down in price. The Konica-Minolta Magicolor 1690MF was the perfect fit to what I was looking for. As others did, I researched other color laser printers including Brother, HP, Samsung, and Canon, and this was the best value I could find for features versus price. I took other reviewer's advice concerning reserving an IP address on my router for the printer and ran into no problems using this as a networked printer. After turning both the PC and printer off at night and turning them back on when used next, there have been no issues printing. As far as con's, I knew up front that memory was limited to 128MB and that appears to be the main reason it will not scan more than 600X600. The software supports higher resolution and the printer accepts the request from the PC scanning interface program to scan at higher resolutions, but the memory appears to be the limiting factor and the job aborts. I have not had the time yet to figure out if I can get more memory installed in the printer or if using the USB port along with the ethernet port will allow scanning at higher resolutions. The printer is great for common presentation materials, but not so with photographs with details. The mosaic color patterns show through, but that is not why I bought this printer. I bought it for rock band brochures and such and it does a great job at that. This will work great for any general business presentation materials (my main job is a Sr. Quality Engineer at a major defense Corporation). My main reason for 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 out of 5 is it appears I cannot install more memory if I wanted to. I have not had to call for any technical support to date. Just make sure you read the manuals before installing and using it and you should have limited problems, if any. And, reserve an IP address on your router if you intend to use this printer as a networked printer instead of connecting directly to your PC. Finally, if you're lookin for a small printer, this is a little bigger than what I anticipated even though I saw the physical measurements in the specs. But, how small can you get without sacrificing page count per cartdige if you need to install four color toner cartidges and an imager and fuser? Just don't be looking for a printer with small space requirements here and that might be found in a residential setting. From a business standpoint it is fairly compact as an All-In-One/Multi-Function printer. This won't fit on a shelf in the cabinet in my built in desk in my home where the previous inkjet printer was sitting, so it is going to be installed in a…

Good product at a good cost, overall. Color printing is slower than black and white, but fine for home use. Machine does not have the ability to distinguish fax ring from phone ring - picks up all calls, not just faxes, so I ended up setting the fax receive mode to manual. This unit replaces a Brother multifunction machine that could distinguish fax signal from voice call, and I do miss that feature.

Using it for general home office stuff - presentations, sales items, CD covers and liners, small posters, faxes, lo-volume scanning and faxing - it's doing a great job. I did a lot of research before I chose this one, and I'm glad I did - the print quality is excellent, and it's fast

I am glad that I can print professional reports with my color letterhead, and waterproof prints of field paperwork that I don't have to worry about getting rained on. I don't like the fact that this printer DOES NOT accept standard number 10 business envelopes nor the kind of multiple labels I used to print with my black and white. Unfortunately I will have to keep my old black and white laser around for these functions.
