There are not too many downdraft cooktops any longer, and we chose this one based on it's look and positive reviews. We have not been disappointed. It looks fantastic with our new granite countertops, and has worked flawlessly. The grates sit up a bit high on the cooktop, but that doesn't bother us. They are also a bit heavy, but that exudes quality and durability. The fan is strong. Cleaning can be a pain, because to clean it properly and to keep it looking it's best, you need to use a ceramic based cleaner, which is like putting on a coat of wax and buffing it out. That's not required every time, but something that needs to be done on a regular basis to keep it looking it's best.
