I was thinking of getting a camera better than the typical automatic hand-held because i wanted to shoot in low light and get better zoom when i travel, but did not want to hike around seperate lenses and camera bags. This is perfect. Its very easy to learn and the pics are great. I ordered a longer life battery which will come in handy if you are shooting multiple hours. So far, I dont have a single complaint!!!

I went from a Pentex Optio 550 to this Canon. After the battery was charged I was able to easily set up the date and time and take some snap shots of my children. After spending about an hour looking over the manual, which I printed out, I was able to easily take some photos using the special features. The video was just as easy to work. The screen is crisp and clear as are all the photos that I have taken. To do some of the special shots there are a few extra step to get the photo, but with time should not be a problem. I do have a tremor in my left hand and using my older camera did get to hard, the Canon Powershot SX40 allows me to get back to something I enjoy doing as a hobby!

The primary use for this camera is to take with me when i travel for business or when we go camping or hiking. I own a few SLRs but I think that this will be my go to camera. This is a great camera for a beginner or experienced photographer. The controls are well placed and easy to use. The internal software provides endless fun and effects. The superzoom is incrediable. And... It is a Cannon. If you are looking for a great camera this is it!! My only complant about this camera is that the full manual is not included but can be printed for free. As always Abe's of Maine has fast shipping and are great to work with. Great job!!

Does the work of a digital SLR with 3 lenses, tithe zoom is great and the SX 40 is a lot lighter for vacation use. I am currently on a USA coast to coast rail journey and needed to minimize what I carried with me.

This is a great camera for the price. It has a great zoom feature and takes amazing sports shots from a distance. It has a stabilizing feature that catches someone in movement without blur much of the time. The pictures are very crisp and clear.

I just got this camera. Live in VT and there is something worth taking almost every day. Easy to use, great zoom. I like/need the viewfinder. Nice clear photos. No weaknesses. I've had Canon 35 mm SLR and Olympus digital camera. Tried less expensive Fuji loaded with feathres but not worth it as photo quality was not v good. This camera has and does it all.
