I use the product for family functions and in travel. I bought this camera for casual photography and for the video. This camera is really good for the reason i bought. The video is a little bit grainy when you zoom too close else the video is of good quality when taken normally. You also have to careful to not shake the camera too much. You have to have little patience while taking photos as it takes some time to save it. if you are taking too much video you need to have good memory.

This is a wonderful small camera, great for traveling. The 4x zoom is nice and gives more upclose views than thn 3x of many others in the Canon SD digital elph line. I've owned several others in this line of digital elphs. Improvements in this camera is a flash that adjusts for the distance of the object in focus, particularly important for the macro function. I took a lot of wonderful close-ups of mushrooms and flowers; the flash was wonderful and rarely over exposed. the 3" screen is also a nice feature.

If you dont need the extra sharpness you can reech with high end SLR camera, it is the perfect point and shoot camera. small and light. with the size of the sensor and the 12MP dont expect too much in low light and high iso... over 400 iso, the noise kills the picture !

Comments:

I had a previous model sd500 at 7 megapixels that took great quality pictures, this camera did not even compare when looking at pictures side by side. Wide screen only good if you drop resolution down to 9 megs, at highest res the screen is not the right proportion. Time between pictures also was slower than expected, sometimes missed the shot or got one with eyes closed. The video mode did seem to operate well and the picture was great. I tried to like this camera, but when comparing photos from other cameras I finally gave up and have returned it. To me it seems like this camera was released too soon and was not ready for prime time yet. I am still a Canon fan and just ordered the SD970 after extensive research and am crossing my fingers it will provide the quality I have come to expect from Canon

Wow! Canon has done a superb job in including everything you might desire in a point-and-shoot. I thought I would want a 3" screen but this is so close you won't realize the difference. PACKED with options that really work. The advanced DIGIC4 processor along with the Scene Detection Technology make it almost impossible to take a bad picture. I vascilated for months on which model to choose and couldn't be happier with this decision.
