I bought the camera to use at concerts where flash photography is prohibited. It performs beautifully and I image quality is great. This is my go-to camera that I will keep in my purse for those times when you want to capture the moment without worrying about lighting.

The G12 is better than any compact, it's allow you to a widely manual settings that let you enjoy the way to make photos. However it depends what you need. I've also a semi-professional reflex (40D) with a set of lens that allow me to use them in very different situations. However, as I've to travel a lot for work, I cannot bring always with me a laggage just for my 40D&co. therefor something compact, fast, and very powerful as this G12 it's perfect for me. Anyway, if you're thinking to use it as a normal compact, maybe you're wrong. It's bigger enough compare to a normal compact, and this will bother you also for the weight. Just to make a summary: G12 it's perfect for any kind of travel where you can't have all the equipment of a most serious camera, but it's not the best solution for a concert or a random party night somewhere due for its dimension and weight.

I am retired and enjoy wandering around, really seeing things clearly for the first time.. I set up this camera on a tripod and use the exposure compensation dial to really capture the shadows and the moods of my shots. The clarity, color, and sharpness of my pictures shocks me when I see them on my computer screen.

This is really a super camera. All the great reviews are correct. I've always wanted to carry a very small tripod so I could join in our family photos when no one was around to help us. But my EOS D5 was just too big for a small tripod. Now I can carry the G12, which has the important characteristics of the D5, and its little tripod attaches to the bottom of the Canon G12 case. Perfect!

I took it on vacation instead of my Canon 5D Mark II and I don't regret. The quality is excellent and exceeded all my expectations. It is fun camera with a lot of features. I used it with radio trigger and external flash and got such excellent pictures, that people comment that they look like from magazine.

The G12 is a wonderful product except for the optical viewfinder, which is almost useless for composing the shot. Way too much of the scene is cut off. The LCD is right-on, though.

I was looking for a camera that took great photos, but was easy to juggle while chasing 2 active young boys.I also wanted something I could start to play with settings & experiment with taking more interesting photo's. I am thrilled with this camera! The image quality is wonderful & it takes fast beautiful images. I have only had it for a few weeks. In that time have been able to capture all types of photos, under many different kinds lighting, action, landscapes, children, plants, ect. The only type of photos that I was not thrilled with was of a fast paced hockey game. Which may be more of user error. As the manual is on the computer(my only complaint), so I could not read it to find out what I needed to do to get better pics at the game. Besides that all the photos turned out amazing. I love this camera!

I needed a camera I can use for automatic everyday shooting as well as for projects that require elaborate manual controls. The G12 delivers both, and with very good image quality in both cases. It's the best in its class.

This is a great camera! We got this to provide us some better quality photos for around the home. This camera takes outstanding quality shots, and easily beats our previous camera (a Canon A720IS). Much better performance in low light, ISO, speed, and image quality in general. Excellent macro shots! We've been a able to get quite creative with the many modes and options ... while not getting so complicated that we just give up. Auto mode works well most of the time, with the occasion to go into manual to alter the shooting even more. Wife loves the camera, so that's a big plus!

This camera is the fastest camera I've ever had. It recovers quickly after flash shots and can take multiple pictures immediately after each other. I never have to worry about missing a good picture again. The photos are crisp and well-balanced as far as color and brightness. The worst feature is that some of the buttons are right where I hold the camera with my right hand. Because of this, the buttons in that area have been pushed inadvertantly at times.

I was looking for replacement of my Powershot A710 as it's flash died. I gave a try to SX-130 and it did not satisfy me. So I settled with G12. You can find a lot of positive reviews on the web about G12. I would not repeat them, I just will say that my friend, owning G11, said that my G12 is a big improvement. What I would like to see there to be different: -better grip -less weight -faster lenses -printed manual!!!!!! -less compression on jpeg -7x or so of zoom Otherwise - I like it..
