I really haven't had it long enough to say it's great but so far I really like it. Canon is a good company and my sister and my mom have a Canon and they have no complaints so I am looking forward to using and enjoying my camera for a long time.

I use this camera to take pictures of my children and family in a variety of settings. The quality of the pictures is good. The only thing that annoys me is the lag time when I take a picture in the dark and the flash is needed.

Great product for the price. It does work very well in low beam lights. You might have to play with the settings for certain shots, but it is a great product!

Cons: The getting started book is not sufficient in explaining the entire use of the camera. I had to download the instructions from the PDF file which is over 64 pages. I like carrying the instruction book with me so I can refer to it. Since this may be an issue I think Canon should send the full instruction book with the camera when purchased.

The Canon A1100 IS Digital Camera picture quality (12 MP) is clear and precise and by far the best deal for the price, as I have checked many options throughout On Line Services. The included instruction assisted my initial photos of my family/cats which have received many rave reviews from my family.

This is the third camera of this model I have purchased - one for me and two for children. I love the overall value. It seems to be the best point-and-shoot camera out there with what I want. I wanted an Auto that truly gave great pictures and it does. I wanted a large bright display and it it has one. I wanted a compact, but not slippery case, and it has one. I wanted a menu system that is intuitive, and it has that as well. I've just in general always been happy with Canon quality. About the only thing I don't use is the Canon software. I like iPhoto better but that is just personal preference.Battery life isn't exceptional if you're shooting a lot of pictures. But with that being said I still prefer the AA batteries as you can always have a spare with you without worrying about charging time and no charger to store. On reasonable resolution settings the battery cost per picture is almost nothing.[...]

Comments:

Main reason I purchased this was as a backup to my trusty Powershot A75, because it is one of the few point and shoots with an optical viewfinder for use on sunny days, and to conserve battery power. The image stabilization has already proven its value by producing a good shot in dim museum light without flash at very slow shutter speed. Have not had need for any of the face detection features and do not expect to. Experiments with sunset and foliage modes have been successful. Also neat to see it switch automatically to macro mode for extreme closups. I do wish it had a shutter speed priority mode. but so far cant find one, except to increase the ISO speed setting which can lead to grainy quality. The "easy" and "auto" modes will be great for my wife on our travels and I will stick to my old faithful A75.

Comments:

This compact little camera is a great addition to my more complex Canon Rebel SLR. It is small enough to be tucked in a pocket or purse ready to pull out when a surprise shot presents itself. It truly shines when taking photos of people, groups and closeups of animals. Its major drawback is the lag time for a shot especially when a flash is needed. Here, the SLR is the only way to go. So, carrying both cameras really covers about any shot that one would want to make.

Comments:

The best thing about this camera is the photo quality. I have a SD7900 which I bought for it's look & feel, steel body, 3" LCD. And I recently bought A1100 for my friend. At first I didn't like it's plastic body. The buttons has this plastic-ky feeling, the LCD is smaller 2.5" & the battery (2 AA) life was very short. I lamented for buying it. But when we compared the pictures taken by both cameras, A1100 pictures were astonishingly better, sharper & clear than SD790. The slow sync. flash worked well at the Niagara falls capturing the brightly lit falls in the background & everyone in the foreground, with minimal blur & shake. My SD790 failed here. And in indoors, pictures taken by A1100 were clear & sharp, with & without flash. My SD790 pictures were dark with shadows behind everyone. Clearly A1100 captures better pictures. If you don't mind the plastic body, AA batteries & 2.5" LCD, it's a good buy.
