Comments:

Bought the 7D as an upgrade from a 20D. Tried to do a cheap upgrade first by buying a SX1 IS, which was a disappointment (grainy photos but pretty good videos...for a digicam). The 7D is everything I've expected: great build quality, fast and accurate focus, excellent image quality, and 8 fps. I use it mostly for sports photography, so fast focus and 8 fps are essential. Haven't used the video much, mainly cuz my PC can't handle the files for smooth playback. Something to note: I'm a big guy with big hands. The 7D fits very comfortably in my hands. It may feel a bit heavy to some, but I actually enjoy the heft, as it attests to the 7D's robust build quality. I've had it for a couple of months and would highly recommend it. Be sure to buy good glass if you want to get the most out of this DSLR. Also, buy an extra battery. The Canon battery was good for 860 snaps on its initial charge (mixed use - flash and live view). Bought an Opteka 2200 mah backup battery, but it was good for only 500 snaps. At less than 20-bucks, you get what you pay for.

Overall the 7D delights and surprises. However, the video is a waste of capacity for a true to art still photographer. IMO, it was a waste. I might play around with video to satisfy any curiosity, but that's it. What's great about it, however, are the features like the low light capability (ISO range), improved and fast AF and built in external flash control. So, until I bring home a copy of the 1Ds, this will do for now. Of course, I will wait to do so until after Canon upgrades a few things to keep the 1Ds firmly in place as their flagship body. It wouldn't be good to have the Mark IV upstage their full framed mama? Right? Can't wait to find out what Canon will unveil next!!

Comments:

Reviews of 7D are already all over the place. I just confirm that the reviews are correct: 7D is an excellent camera. I have both Canon 7D and Nikon D300s, must say 7D is better in almost every possible way. My only complain is that I didn't get the 60M/s high speed CF card, which is advertised on Abe's Maine website. Instead I got a 20M/s CF card. I sent it back and ask them for replacement. They sent me another 20M/s card. [...]

This camera is a very good. It has a lot of features to help you get great photos. The 19 point AF is really great. Lots of focus options. No auto focus in video mode, but it's a camera not a camcorder. Lots of control via computer. Make sure if you buy a mini laptop to use with it that the screen resolution is 1024 X 768 or better. Canon software will not run with less.

Comments:

I bought the EOS 7D primarily for aerial photography. I do some construction progress aerial work that requires good detail and high resolution, so decided to upgrade to the 18 MP 7D. I will also use it for job site/construction site ground photography I do for my advertising services business. I am very pleased with the sharp, high resolution images I am getting with the camera. I have extensively used an older Canon 20D, so found the transition to the 7D quite easy, as most of the controls and functions are similar. The 7D definitely has the look and feel of a quality piece of equipment. The ergonomics are very good, and all key controls are logical and fall easily under the fingertips. One thing I like about the 7D that won't be a selling point for many people is the weight of the camera. Mated to my favorite EF 28-135mm stabilized lens it makes for one hefty piece of camera equipment. In aerial photography some camera mass helps to dampen shake and vibration from the aircraft. I highly recommend the 7D to anyone who has the need for 18 MPs, isn't intimidated by complexity, and who has the photographic skills to take advantage of the capabilities the camera offers in the program modes.
