PROS

  • Large Clear LCD
  • Good Image Stabilization

CONS

  • Noisy At High ISO

BEST USES

  • Weddings/Events

Comments:

Portraits are sharp even without using a tripod. Performs great in low light situations such as sports venues that do not allow flash photography. A little noisy for weddings but still prefer it over any other camera I own. Love the larger LCD screen.

Had the 7D for about a year and I was never really happy with the IQ, it had a whole lot of features that the 5D Mark II don't have but after everything wears off you're longing for a better IQ, I'm glad I was able to sell the 7D sure it's fast but IQ and High ISO shots are important then 5D2 is your camera. I don't know what's in store for the Mark III but the Mark II suits me just fine, I use Zeiss Distagon 35f2 ZE and a Zeiss 100f2 Makro-Planar with this camera so I wouldn't have to worry about AF issues, i have a 50 1.4 laying around and tried AF it's fast enough with kids running around. If you're on the fence on upgrading you should take the plunge it's well worth it.

I have one 5D Mk II now and bought this for my wife. It's far superior to the 5D in terms of greater megapixels for better clarity, wider ISO speed capability and the ability to use auto ISO that will cover MOST low light. I commonly use it on ISO 4000 or 5000 on monuments at night. used it on the aurora borrealis in Greenland and got great pix. I can set my speed at 1/500 for my big 100-400mm zoom and not have to worry at all about blur, yet it will choose a good ISO with f5.6. Wish it had both aperture and shutter speed priority but it doesn't. You can almost use it on P mode as a point and shoot with ordinary focal length lenses. I tend to get out to 800mm a lot. You'll love this camera

PROS

  • Amazing resolution
  • Large Clear LCD

CONS

  • Body could be tougher
  • "Dust" on focusing screen
  • Unacceptable old AF

BEST USES

  • Travel
  • Candid street shooting
  • Weddings/Events

Comments:

I had been dreaming about a 5D2 for a least a year. As they were becoming scarce, I decided to bite the bullet and buy one. Bottom line: it is an amazing camera and the image quality makes up for some of it's short comings. My two main complaints (for a camera of this price point) are: 1.) old, slow, unacceptable AF - especially in low light. Yes the ISO performance is excellent, but the camera should have an AF worthy of that ISO capability. Nikon's pro AF systems are light years ahead. 2.) The body could feel tougher for $2500 - the battery door squeaks. I shoot mostly engagement sessions, other family work, and travel / candid street. Each time I upload my images I am always amazed at the sheer resolution of the camera and I forget about my gripes.

What hasn't already been said about this camera. It is perfect for pro or amateur with deep pockets. Love the images, the feel of the camera, it's quietness. Haven't spent much time with 1080P video feature. A couple test shots looked great.

Comments:

So many reviews have already been written... but in a nutshell, best image quality ever. So so auto-focus that you have to help a bit. In fact everything "auto" needs some help, but it is SO worth it when you see the images. The menus are a huge leap forward from the 40D, with everything you need right there and easy to get to. All in all, I'm exceptionally pleased with the 5d Mk ii.
