This is a great lens with good reach. There is no need for the IS version at twice the price. If you set the camera up right you shouldnt really need it. Ive taken a few hundred pictures with it and havent gotten a blurry pic yet. Go for this and save the cash.

Marketing our Egyptian Arabian horses depends first on eye catching photography. So I need moving & posing shots. I was greatly impressed with the extreme fast focus & rapid shots I got. (Horses never stand still for very long.) I didn't know my Canon 20D could fire shots this fast! Using my several of my old lens they never did the job this new one does. Am I Happy? You bet! The 70-200 f4 lens is light weight enough for "this old gal" to use in the pasture walking, hand held and photographing beautiful horses all taken with this Canon lens. There is nothing found that is negative about this lens!

This is a very sharp well constructed lens. Some will say that the lack of IS is a con but that would only be a con if it had it and it didn't work very well. This lens does not come with IS so must be used accordingly. Best used with a monopod of tripod unless bright light is available. Focuses fast and accurately. For the money this is one heck of a buy.

This zoom lens is the best in the price range. L quality. Strong construction. Lightweight for a long zoom. Lighter than my 17-55mm. I would go for the IS version but double the price is a difficult decision. Overall, this is the must have lens.

This is the first in my budding collection of "L" glass. I couldn't be more pleased. Much lighter than the 70-200mm F/2.8L which makes a difference on long shoots. Images are crisp; beautiful bokeh 200mm wide open with close subjects. Focus is very fast. Shot the Eugene Marathon with it today in sputtering rain on my 50D, no cover and no weather related problems. I've used this very successfully for portrait / sporting events with fantastic results. It's minor but I do wish all Canon 'L' glass was available in black finish. What an excellent, affordable entry into Canon's top of the line lenses. I would definitely buy this lens again.
