I received this lens on a Friday and used it the next day at a wedding. Received flowing complements when I shared the photos with the Groom's family. The photos were so sharp, much more so than my previous non L series lens

Tack sharp pictures. I am really pleased with the quality of the lens. The weight, well, if you want the quality, you have to put up with the weight.

This lens has been used consistently since I bought it. The pictures are very sharp, excellent bokeh, can be used as a macro, the IS is excellent. The lens is used on a 7D body with a Canon handstrap attached, I do not wear a neckstrap, and I can carry it for 2 to 3 hours without any problems on heavyness. In my humble opinion, there is no need for a lens collar; however, that depends on your personal taste. I have used the lens on portraits, fast action playing, wildlife, and the pictures are superb. It is worth the price.

After using this lens for a month, I can say this is my favorite Canon lens of all time. (The day after this lens arrived, I put my EF 24-85, EF 28-70L, and EF 28-135 IS up for sale, as this replaced the trio.) PRO: 1) The Focal length is a in good range. A 24mm on the 10D, with the 1.6X crop factor, is just wide enough where I can travel with one single lens if I wanted to. 2) The Image Stablization works extremely well, allowing hand holding at 2-3 stops slower than without IS. 3) The glass is L quality, producing sharp vibrant images. 4) Solid construction. The zoom and focus rings has a solid feel to them. There is no lens creep, even when it's pointed straight up.

I am a avid photographer with love for Canon cameras and lenses. I currently also own a Canon 5D MKII with a 28-300 but was starting to find the lens heavy for day to day use though excellent versatility on a trip. After reading some reviews I shortlisted the 24-70, and 24-105. Had a hard time deciding between the two till a semi-pro friend of mine highly recommended the 24-105 for the lighter weight as well I read the loss of a couple of focal points was actually not that bad for this lens. I just finished a short trip with the camera and lens combo and love the lens. The pictures are sharp, the lens performs very well under different light conditions. So far very good experience.

Comments:
I replaced Canon 28-135mm with this 24-105mm L-lens. This is my second L-lens from Canon. The quick noticeable changes are much better and faster focus, better performance in low light. This is my primary all walk-around lens now. Thanks to the better auto-focus I can take more high quality portrait pics. The only cons is the price, but there is not much an ordinary customer could do, especially if it's backordered at most vendors.

Comments:
In addition to the pluses noted above, this is a wondeful lens for travel photos. The image stabilizer and high-quality construction permit sharp, hand-held shots without flash in relatively low light.
