I have always been a canon user but have never been satisfied with the system when it went digital. My ef lenses never worked quite right and the ef-s lenses left a lot to be desired. This ef-s lens makes a great difference. It is well made, fast and gives crystal clear images. It reminds me of an L class lens without the price.

Amazing image quality has a price! But you won`t be disappointed. A little heavy but you can't bypass the laws of optics.

I was forced by a couple of my good friends to purchase this lens and make it my main lens for 60D. Even though it is quite expensive, the quality of the picture is superb and is worth the price if you can afford it. I highly recommend it

1.Keeps me out of a lot of indoor flash situations because it's so fast. 2. Good range to keep on your camera most of the time. 3. For the price Canon should include the hood with this lens.

So far I am pleased with everything about this lens. This will actually be used instead of my 17-40mm. Seems to have the same build quality as my L lenses, with the advantage of being faster and also with IS. Hand holding this lens taking night shots is no problem.

Impressive lens. I saw the difference compared with tamron 17-50 VC. Sharper image, yet the lens is bigger. I hope the dust would not be an issue. I wish for this price it would be at least dust resistant.

I had a Tamron with the same specs. The Tamron does not compare. I could never get a sharp focus with the Tamron, as I could with this lens. I use this lens for indoors and low light. I have the 24-105mm F4 L lens for day time. I'm set. I used the 17-55mm to film a night scene indoors. It looked like a scene from a movie.

You know you are paying for when you decided to buy this lens. This is the best general purpose lens for Canon crop sensor cameras. This lens matches the quality and power of high-end cameras like 7D. It feels phenomenal and takes excellent pictures. When you an f2.8 lens makes completely difference on your camera. Regarding the commonly sited dust problem of this lens, solution is simple: put a filter on the lens all the time. When front element is covered, no dust will be sucked in.

This is my primary lens as I wanted a smaller lens that could handle both low light and normal zoom operations. This lens accomplishes both admirably. Stage photography is incredible if you have the freedom to move around and get close to the stage. If you must remain seated far from the action get the 70-200 f2.8 canon lens instead. All other photography I've done has been spectacular. Even hand held (no tripod) fireworks shots have come out clear. I am using it primarily on a new canon 50d. If you want the best general purpose smaller lens, buy this.

I upgraded from a Sigma lens to this. From my first shot I could tell this was a huge upgrade. Focus is the fastest I've seen in a lens of this type and my shots are very sharp and colors look great. It feels like my Rebel XT is a new camera.

When the lens arrived i was quite shocked at the overall size but after one day it was apparent this lens was truely amazing. The wide lens makes it so you don't in a flash in most situations and you can really get close up shots. Unless you need a microscope, this lens rocks! Highly recommend it. The only drawback is the size & weight. I never had a strap on the EOS 30D until now.

Excellent lens. No problems with dust so far. Takes great photos of closeups, tight spaces or scenic pics. Definitely one to bring wherever you go. The IS really makes a difference to me especially when you need to take that quick photo or in low light condiditons.

Great Lens. I would like to see it a little less pricey. However, it is a good lens. I like the fact that it is light. Very fast too. Some overexposure issues, but that is why it is so fast.

This is a great lens and has become the primary lens on my 40D camera (except for wildlife and sports). I agonized over the "L" lenses (24-70mm f/2.8L & 17-40mm f/4L), but based on reviews and feedback, went with this one. The construction is as good as any of the "L" lenses, I just can't use it on a full frame, which I really doubt is in my future. I highly recommend this lens!
