The difference between the ball lock and the drag is subtle, but present. The switch between tripod and monopod is not 'instant', but not unreasonable either. A great feature when traveling. Really minor: Slightly rough pan if the pan lock is not completely released. An AMAZING improvement over my old cheapie tripod!
